Polo Enterprises Australia is dedicated to introducing the sport of polo to a broader spectrum of the community, promoting professional polo players, attracting new players, creating hospitality and entertainment opportunities for the general public as well corporate organizations at polo events, and growing the sport generally.
Polo Enterprises has modeled its Polo in the City series on some of the popular international tournaments around the world. The idea is to bring the sport to the city, to the people, to show people why it’s one of the fastest growing spectator sports in the world. People have a perception that polo is only played by royalty…or people who think they’re royalty. That’s not quite true. Obviously royals play the game (and hopefully they will continue to do so, and continue to support and promote the sport), however, these days the sport is professional in many countries. Australia has its own contingent of professional players, some of whom play here whilst others, such as Ruki Baillieu, Glen Gilmore and Robert Archibald, also travel the international circuit.
The series is an opportunity to showcase some of Australia’s most exceptional polo talent. These guys are athletes, like in any other sport, and we want to give them some recognition.
Polo is also generally more accessible now. It’s not the cheapest sport and never will be, but the rewards outweigh the investment in our experience. With the emergence of clubs that lease ponies (see Learn to Play), anyone can have a go. The series is intended to increase awareness of the sport and encourage people to give it a go.
